New Trend for A/W15 – Graphic Print

Our lovely Feather & Stitch customers are often eager to know “what’s in?” for the new season, so we thought we’d tell you about one of the hottest trends for Autumn/Winter ’15.

From the fashion shows in all four cities, one of the most vibrant of the new season trends was a bold, graphic art-inspired mood which came in every shade imaginable. ‘Checkerboard’ featured, alongside coloured, cube prints as designers presented their intricately geometric patterns.

Two of our favourite brands – Custommade & Des Petits Hauts – have delivered on this trend in a stunning and super-wearable way, sticking to a largely monochrome pallet and classic shapes.

So, go graphic with your knit, coat or shirt, team it with your DL1961 denim and you’ve got a casual but sophisticated look that’s fresh and oh-so-current!

Stripes // Stripes

I love stripes. From a classic breton top to a wide chevron striped skirt I have them all in my wardrobe, but there’s always room for one more. Especially when the stripes in question are 100% cashmere and incorporate two of my favourite colours namely aqua and light grey. This 360ºSweater is ideal for spring being lightweight and oh so soft. You can’t see it in the photographs but there’s a cute button up detail on the side seam too.

It’s a great time of year to invest in cashmere; we’re in that in between stage where the weather has no idea what it’s doing from one day to the next so a lightweight yet warm knit performs a key function. It will layer easily over a shirt and under a jacket or it can be styled on it’s own, providing a versatility that our comfy heavy winter knits can’t compete with at this time of year.

360ºSweater have designed this sweater with drop shoulders and a boxy look, while it isn’t fitted it’s not oversized either. I chose a pair of our washed grey DL1961 Jeans to complement the cool tones. We’ve noticed how much you love our DL1961 jeans and so we’ve upped the number of different colour ways in our collection, check them out here and we are reordering them as fast as they’re flying out of the door. So if you can’t find your size in the colour you want send us a lovely email and we’ll special order them for you (there’s no need to thank us and no extra charge, it’s all part of our commitment to keep you looking gorgeous).

Launching our Outfit of the Week

Exciting things are happening at Feather & Stitch HQ this spring. Not only are our rails now crammed with beautiful new clothes with more on the way, we’re also launching a new feature on the blog which will see both myself and our founder Fiona Sanderson (Fi to friends) highlighting our favourite picks from the SS15 collection. We’re not just talking about the pieces we love we’re styling them too so that you can better see how the collection works for real women. Our photographs for these features are purposefully natural and have not been photoshopped.

Fi, like so many of our clientele is a working mother. Anyone with children, indeed anyone who is close to someone with children knows the very real struggle we can go through to keep our sense of identity after childbirth. There is a temptation to hide in maternity jeans and old shapeless tops but the loss of personal style in this manner can be damaging, not just personally but professionally too. We offer a personal styling service at Feather & Stitch which aims to deliver advice tailored to your individual needs. We want to imbue our clients with a startling confidence in their own unique sense of style. We are on your side ladies and whether you’re running errands, lunching with friends or nailing a presentation at work we want you to look amazing.

So drumroll please… here is our founder in her outfit of the week debut.

Fringed cashmere

Fringing is BIG news this season. You will see it cropping up on bags, tops, jackets and kimonos. Here Fi has paired the Dominique fringed cardigan by 360ºSweater with the Mai blouse from Des Petits Hauts. The blouse is a cotton-linen mix and has long sleeves, perfect for keeping you warm in early spring. The cardigan is both wonderfully soft and warm as you’d expect from 100% cashmere, but the waterfall opening and fringing on the front sets it apart from other cardigans we’ve seen.

Neutrals and blush pinks take centre stage this season too. We have shades to suit every skin tone as well as accessories such as gold dusted belts to give each outfit a little sparkle and polish.

DL1961 Jeans have proved themselves a firm favourite with our clients over the last season and they will be coming back in spring with more colours and styles added later this month. The shaping technology of their four-way stretch denim is the best we’ve seen in recent years.

Liebeskind is another of our favourite brands back for SS15. We can’t get enough of the buttery soft leather synonymous with this brand and the new pastel shades are just dreamy. Here Fi is carrying the Elena bag in powder rose. We have a limited quantity of Liebeskind in stock so to avoid disappointment I suggest a swift and decisive swoop through our leather goods online and in store. Which brings me to Fi’s footwear. These Billi Bi Snakeskin Chelsea Boots are now in final sale and will be perfect festival goers this summer. Wear them with our Des Petits Hauts dresses for a Parisienne look.

Summer Knits by Des Petits Hauts & 360º Sweater

Isn’t it always the way that when you want a lightweight cashmere knit in late spring and summer there’s not-a-one to be found? This is because savvy shoppers have already snapped them up and you end up thumbing through the new heavy winter knits in mid-August. Not ideal right? You can prevent this scenario by shopping smart now. At Feather & Stitch we care a great deal about the quality of our knitwear, we know it has to work hard because of the vagaries of the English climate which is why we take such pride in our hand picked collection. This season our knitwear range includes a fantastic selection from Des Petits Hauts and 360º Sweater.

The Saint Laurent and Tommy Hilfiger runways were awash with star prints and bold colours; a look that’s incorporated into 360º Sweater cashmere knitwear. The navy and white star Capella sweater is a sure fire winner with it’s scoop neckline and slighty fitted silhouette. While the Vega sweater channels a punchier design, using single bold star on the back and 3/4 length sleeves.

If you yearn for pastels, take a look at our Betsie and Bertino sweaters by Des Petits Hauts. Made from 100% merino wool these feminine pieces are punctuated with demure cut-out details and bows. At Burberry Prorsum blush pastels like these were paired with lilac shades while Stella McCartney opted for gold and tan details.

Sea green hues are perfect for spring and flatter most skin tones, I’ve fallen for the 100% cashmere Andi jumper in sea foam and the bold stripes of the Skylar jumper, both are by 360ºSweater. I’ll be wearing mine with white jeans and yellow accents.

Skylar side

The nautical feel of the Atilon pullover is hugely appealing after the earthy colours of autumn and winter; stripes are always en point and were seen at Chanel, Emporio Armani and Altuzarra to name a few. Wear it with white and pastel coloured jeans, or if you wish to emulate the shape of the season choose wide leg sailor pants and chunky block heeled sandals.

Autumn’s cosiest knits

You’ve been taking care of everyone all summer long and now it’s time to take care of yourself. What better way than to treat yourself to some serious snuggle time in some of autumn’s cosiest knits?

We’re seriously falling for the long shapes and slightly boxy oversized knits that are de rigueur for AW14. Layer the longer cardigans over a silk blouse or lightweight tee. The sweaters look great by themselves tucked into a skirt or over jeans. It’s simple to work a preppy back-to-work look by adding a crisp white shirt underneath and for added weekend warmth layer over a denim shirt with a scarf. We asked Fiona to pick some of her favourite knits from this season’s collection.

1) Luther pullover by 360 Sweater – Skulls take on a cool urban edge with 360 Sweater’s, Luther, side-buttoned, charcoal tunic sweater; but don’t let the imagery fool you, this sweater has a soft side as it’s made of 100% cashmere. Dropped shoulder seams add to the off-duty contemporary look.

2) Dagny by Custommade – Life is short, wear sequins… add sparkle to your everyday wardrobe with this super soft cashmere mix sweater, it’s also available in black and grey.

3) Giuliana by By Malene Birger – Fi’s personal favourite! You can’t go wrong with this ¾ length sleeve gold animal print sweater. The modern way to wear neutral is to pair it with the seasons stand out colours of navy and maroon, add skinny jeans for a relaxed look or leather leggings to unleash your inner animal. Size down as this one comes up a little large.

Middle row from left:

2) Buckle Jumper by Second Female – Soft, grey and oh so wearable. This marled knit will look beautiful paired with the Maison Scotch tailored pink Boucle coat.

3) Mia jumper by Jeff – Embellished with pearls and crystals this crew neck sweater is a perfect choice for any woman who likes a little glitz and glamour with her everyday routine. Wear with a pencil skirt to the office and skinny jeans for long Sunday lunches with family and friends.
